Western Branch Farm

 

Western Branch Farm is a 56 acre farm of forest and pasture, near Bridgewater in Nova Scotia.

 

The farm will grow 15 acres of the latest superfood berry - the haskap.

 

The soil and growing conditions are perfect high on the drumlins of South Western Nova Scotia for this exciting new superfood to flourish!

Haskap Berry

 

The haskap, a member of the honeysuckle family, was first introduced to Canada around 1967, and is sometimes known as ‘edible blue honeysuckle’, ‘Honeyberry’, ‘sweetberry’ and ‘haskap’.

 

The berry is grown on the island of Hokkaido, Japan, and was named ‘hasukappu’ by the indigenous Ainu.Haskap are high in anthocyanins, vitamin C, phenolic compounds and other antioxidants.

 

Latest News 

Well 2020 has been a strange year so far hasn't it?! Having had a good 'friends and family' crop last summer in 2019, we were hoping for an improvement this year.

But a certain global pandemic has put the brakes on any chance of that happening!

Instead we are stuck in the UK with little likelihood of being able to travel to Nova Scotia this summer. 

We're relaxed ... the plants will continue to grow and our wonderful neighbours are keeping an eye on things out on the farm!
